Sea Transportation

In shantou City there are 86 above 500 tons-grade berths, including 13 above 10,000 tons-grade ones. The annual handling capacity reaches 2,470 million tons. Shantou port, assigned by the Ministry of Communication, is one of the twenty pivotal ports of China. There are cargo intercourses between Shantou Port and more than 210 ports of some forty countries and regions, as well as the main ports of China. Scheduled line of container cargo ships between Shantou and Hong Kong, Shantou and Japan, Shantou and Korea, Shantou and Tailand had been opened. International shipping agencies provide cargo transits services.

Land Transportation

Highway transportation is considerably developed in Shantou. The highway net is rationally distributed. The No.324 and No.206 State Highways pass through Shantou region. Direct passenger buses and cargo trucks go between Shantou and Hong Kong everyday. Expressways connecting Shenzhen and Shantou, Xiamen and Shantou have been opened for operation, and it takes only 3 hours to drive to Shenzhen and Xiamen from Shantou. Railway transportation has been developed rapidly. Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway has connected with Beijing-Kowloon Railway, and this makes Shantou an important outlet port of the Railway. Shantou-Meizhou-Fujian Railway has started transportation service. A batch of key projects, including Shantou-Jieyang-Meizhou Expressway are under construction.

Air Transportation

Shantou Airport is suitable for handling big aircrafts such as Boeing 737 and 757. Four international lines have been opened from Shantou to Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. There are also 40 domestic airlines from Shantou to Benjing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chengdu, Xi'an, Shenyang, Dalian, Harbin, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Haikou, Changsha, Zhengzhou, Nanchang, Nanning, Guiling, Guiyang, Ji'nan, Qingdao, Changchun and Hefei. After reconstruction, the passenger handling capacity of Shantou Airport has reached 3 million person-times and cargo business has been opened to all the cities with airports.

Water Supply

There are four water works with a daily supply capacity of 920,000 tons in Shantou. The cornerstone for the No.4 Waterworks with designed capacity of 800,000 cubic meters per day was laid in December 1994. The first phase of the project with capacity of 400,000 cubic meters per day is running. With completing of the project, water supply for the urban will reach 1,520,000 tons per day.

Electricity Supply

Electricity supply of Shantou is linking with power supply network of Guangdong Province. Up to the end of 2002, the local installed capacity is 791,700 kw and the power supply is enough for the future.

Telecommunication

Ranking high in the same grade cities of China, the telephone installation capacity of Shantou is 1,152,200 lines with a popularity of 46.3 lines per hundred people and cellular phone users in urban are 1,513,300. It is easy to make direct dialing to 246 cities of foreign countries and regions, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and 2100 cities in mainland of China. The telex, facsimile, paging services have also been opened. Express mail service is provided to over 200 countries and regions, also to over 2,000 cities in mainland of China. Shantou-Guangzhou information highway, which is the first one in China, has been opened to operation. It has built a satellite communication earth station, which is the first city-grade station in Guangdong Province. The Euro-Asia, China-USA and Asia-Pacific II submarine cables have landed in Shantou.

Financial Organization

All domestic specialized banks have their branch organizations in Longhu District. Huaqiao Commercial Bank of Hong Kong and Bangkok Bank of Thailand have branches in Longhu District. Liu Chung Hing Bank of Hong Kong and Thailand Military International Bank have set up branches in Shantou Special Economic Zone. They can provide loan business service for investors and imp/exp business.

The port administration and service organizations

In Shantou there are administration and service offices, including customs, commodity inspection and quarantine, and frontier inspection, offer the investors services, such as exit and entry registration, inspection and administration. The Shantou Customs has set up a cargo inspection yard to facilitate the collective inspection of import and export goods. Bonded Warehouses supervised by the Customs have been set up for the goods storage service.

Tourist, Culture and Sport Facilities

Being a famous seashore city with moderate temperature, Shantou is a satisfactory place for tourists. Many cultural, sport and tourist facilities can be found in the city. Among these are Queshi Scenic Zone, Beishanwan Tourist and Holiday Resort, Dahao Qingyun Rock, Zhongshan Park, Huaqiao Park, Longhutan Seaside Resort, Mayu Seaside Resort, Xinjinhe Holiday Resort, Donghu Holiday Country, and Shantou Exhibition and Convention Center. Shantou Gulf Golf Club (with 18 holes) started running in September 1999. In the urban there are more than 40 hotels with conditions to accommodate foreign guests, such as the Regency Hotel, Golden Gulf Hotel, Shantou International Hotel and Longhu Hotel. A number of service facilities including shopping centers, Chinese and western restaurants, dancing halls, bars, karaokes, recreation centers provide high quality and complete living service.

Industrial Parks

The existing Longxin Industrial Park, Longshen Industrial Park, Longzhou Industrial Park and Longhu Industrial Park are basically full of projects. Now the district strengthens development and construction of Wanji Industrial Park and Zhujin Industrial Park. New Industrial parks of Pengxiang and Pengnan are being planned in Waisha and Xinxi towns.

Wanji industrial Park, located in north part of Longhu District and opposites to Shantou Railway Cargo Station, has total planned an area of 1,796 Chinese mu. The infrastructure, including water supply, draining, communication, road, power supply and land preparation, has been basically finished. The second-phase of ultrasonic project and the Japanese auto-parts industry park are under construction. It is planed to be built as a national laser-machinery-electronic base.

Zhujin industrial Park is located in east part of Longhu District. In the park, some large enterprises, including Kaiser Group and Yufa Group, have set up factories for operation. It is going to be built as an industrial park with mainly Industries of textile, garments and fur products.

Pengxiang Industrial Park, located in Xinxi town, will plan to open an area of 3,000 Chinese mu for the first stage.

Pengnan Industrial Park, located in Waisha Town, will plan to open an area of 1,500 Chinese mu.

Longhu District will perfect the infrastructure construction in the industrial parks. For those projects in the parks, flexible means for land, workshops and facilities, like leasing, transferring or making requisition of land by investors, will be used to reduce the investment cost in the first phase. Meanwhile, good services of information, technology, talent and finance will be provided for the enterprises, especially to set up information platform for talents and technology. Special organs have been set up to provide the projects with “one-station” service and “one-window” for charge-collection, for the purpose of providing the foreign investors with convenient, quick, quality and efficient service.

Specialized Markets

Numbers of specialized markets with distinguishing features had been set up mainly in Huanghe Road and Changping Road.

South China Commercial Mall. Located at downtown of Changping Road and boarding Linbaixin Exhibition Center, the sixteen storyed South China Commercial Mall with an area of 83,000 square meters has supermarkets, commercial streets, specialized shops, restaurants and entertainment centers. The commercial mall sets a goal to introduce international famous brand and domestic quality products. Wal Mart, the No.1 retailer in world, has a shopping center in the mall.

Changjiang Telecommunication City. Changjiang Telecommunication City is located in middle section of Changjing Road, which is main traffic line of Shantou. Being the first large-scale specialized market of telecommunication products in east region of Guangdong Province, it engages in telecommunication technology development and market management. Many famous enterprises including Shantou Company of China Mobile, Shantou Company of China Unicom and Post and Telecommunication Appliance General Company of China take part in the city.

China (Shantou) Electronic and Electric Appliance Commercial City. It is located at cross region of Huanghe Road and Hengshan Road. The business includes whole sales and retail sales of electric household appliance, communication products, video and audio products, culture articles and entertainment articles.

Gotop Decorative Material Wholesale City. The material city is located at cross section of Huanghe Road and Huashan Road, and has total area of 30,000 square meters. It is the largest decorative material terminal market in east region of Guangdong. The main business scope covers ceramic tiles, wood floorboard, toilet wares, fittings for bathroom, lamps and curtains. Nearly 300 famous-brand merchants have entered the market for business.

Shantou Gotop Furniture Expo Center. Located at the crossing of Huanghe Road and Huasha Road, covering an area of 30,000 sq/m, is the largest furniture shopping center in east Guangdong.
Besides, special markets for cars, computers, IT net and softwares have been developed to some extend.

Service for Investment

Foreign Investment Service Center of Longdu District and Private Economy Service Office of Longhu District jointly operate to provide investors with all-directional services. The "window" government departments including economy development, planning, industrial and commercial administration, environment protection, health, taxation, labor, personnel affairs and public security jointly handle official business. It fulfills the promise to provide "simple, quickly, honest, efficient" service. Investors and foreign-funded enterprises may have the convenience of one "window" to finish the whole specific business, one "window" to pay all the fees and charges and one "institution" to go through all formalities. The Center and Office may provide represantative service including consultation, registration and examination.

Top
